My short experience in the Workplace: Reflection
“The stronger your self-understanding is, the greater your
probability of adapting to the people around you.”

Honestly, workplaces are the real shapers of one’s life, including
behavior. The environment you work in, the people you work with, and the
encouragement you get from these areas shape your behavior, thoughts, self-esteem,
and self-confidence. In other words, workplaces are personality strengtheners
or killers. Your boss and co-workers are those who help you to improve or to
destroy. Your surrounding is what makes you great or down. Here is a short
reflection on my short experience in the workplace.
Before joining my workplace, I had little experience with such
places. Probably, I worked and I had co-workers who had involved my traits in
various ways. My colleagues before this workplace are shorter experience and less
knowledge than these. So that their influence is less effective than these. As
well before I join, I was aware of the culture of workplaces, especially in
Somalia.
On 5th January, HR Office called and informed me to come
on Saturday with documents. That sounded great and I liked it. On 7th
January, I delivered all documents I have and signed the internship form that
HR Office settled for the internship members. My duties were not well defined
since I was a newly joined agent of the institution, but I was attached to
three different offices where I will cooperate and simplify some of their daily
duties. It was an opportunity and really gave me a chance to enhance my office
management experience. The three different offices have had different tasks to
do, so I got another opportunity to work with different roles and get
multitasking opportunities. During this, I had a chance to talk and discuss
with directors from those offices and I honestly benefited from them. Their
working behavior, how happy they are with the job they were doing, their social
treating manners, and their time scheduling were lessons of full insights.
I learned email writing and memo preparation. Not only these but I
have experienced minute writing and conference organizing since I attended many
different conferences with different titles. I was a minute-taker at all those
conferences. This enriched my confidence and it handed me on a great
opportunity I can forward. In the last three months, I developed research paper
formatting, finding research journals, filing, and preparing group emails. I
also studied working with different roles in one person. During my short term
as an intern, I got lessons worth for million thumbs up. I have had friends
with the same idea and those have opposite opinions of the work they are doing.
My colleagues are from various personalities, but I admit one thing they have
all: they are friendly and frank ones. Such an experiment awarded me a fruitful
lesson for the life here and elsewhere. Before I joined the institution there
was one thing I believed and still remaining my mind and that was, “Do not work
for money, but work for joy and to elate with your environment”. My coworkers
and colleagues had not that idea, and some of them tried to hook me with their
mentality of work, luckily, I am always secure and I am sticking to my idea.
In conclusion, the lessons and experiences I have learned in this
short-term workplace are incredible and productive to my life and the life of
coworking. I had friends with solid ideas. I also had others who did not know
anything about Thanksgiving. The friends I met there were absolutely far away
from the reality of such environments. Such an environment may direct you in
the right way and at the same time may deviate you. Pessimistically, I was
granted and awarded as an intellectual very average of my expectations. Above
all, I was honored and helped to gain enough experience. I am thanking all my
friends and colleagues that showed such heartfelt friendship and lastly, I want
to put warm thanks to those who gave me a chance to work as an intern. Thanks
to all of you!
