Abstract
This paper focuses on characteristics of an effective teacher that have not been previously discussed. A teacher with these characteristics is marked by intellectual, technical, and psychic-ability. An effective teacher is expected to have this characteristic. The subject he teaches should be based on the reality and the surrounding environment. Students should see in the subject of matter means to solve their individual difficulties and societal issues. A high-quality teacher is characterized by an emphasis on building the student's mindset, developing attitudes, and relating the past to the present.
Keywords:
Effective, subject of matter, interaction.
Introduction
For the purposes of learning, teachers are always required. The teacher is crucial to curriculum development and instruction. By providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a profession and a fulfilling life, teachers play a crucial role in the lives of their charges. Nobody can dispute the influence of educators, whether in high school or college, on how pupils live (Dr. A. Clement, Mr. Roland Rencewigg, 2020). Although it can be tough to pinpoint exactly what constitutes a successful teacher, Darling Hammond (2010) defined one as "one who is intellectually challenging, motivating students, setting high standards, and encouraging self-initiating learning" (Quma Irah Larasati et al. 2015). Teachers help students learn by imparting knowledge to students and fostering an environment that is favorable to learning. However, the roles that teachers fill are diverse and change depending on the culture of the country and the educational level. The importance of teachers has not diminished in this highly technological age, and it won't until there is still teaching. In addition to students, the teacher is one of the crucial components. The teacher is seen as a benchmark in developing an intellectual and talented generation, making them one of the crucial components in the construction of a school (Asfi Mangzila et al. 2019). According to Chelo Moreno Rubio (2009), effective teachers must concentrate on their students' academic progress.
Robert J. Walker encapsulated the crucial traits in 12 characters, including readiness, humor, optimism, inventiveness, objectivity, compassion, and motivational skills. In spite of Walker's research, this paper focuses on traits of a highly effective teacher that weren't listed by Walker.
The
teacher should connect the three aspects of learning the subject of
matter-society
The
teacher is a bridge between an individual and society as a whole. As well, The
teacher is a channel through which knowledge, positive thoughts, and a good
perception of life pass through to the other side to benefit. A good
teacher has the experience and knowledge to connect the three sides effectively and
functionally and creates a process to be connected to them.
An
effective teacher is expected to have this characteristic. The subject he
teaches should be based on the reality and the surrounding environment. Students
should see in the subject of matter means to solve their individual
difficulties and societal issues. The effective teacher is expected to bring
that three-way relationship.
The
effective teacher should not only focus on knowledge sharing and skills, but he should also nurture awareness and understanding of life
The
main task of a teacher is to give only knowledge to the students as it was in
the past, but now it is not like that anymore. The teacher should build many
areas for the student: He should teach skills, develop the student’s mindset, and
build his awareness. An effective teacher should not only be concerned with students’
academic goals. Teachers’ effectiveness should encompass concern for student’s
personal goals. Students enter into classroom from different backgrounds and
they have come to the class with different minds apart from academics which an
effective teacher should bear in mind (learning (Ania Jocop Kola et al. 2015).
A
high-quality teacher is characterized by an emphasis on building the student's mindset,
developing attitudes and relating the past to the present. The teacher provides
advice and guidance and helps students clarify ideas and limit tasks (Sarabjeet
Kaur, 2019). Teachers takes the place of parents in a school, they guide and
mold the character personality of the student (Sarabjeet Kaur, 2019). Effective
teaching is developmental and dynamic. Teachers should be growing continuously
as they construct new knowledge and change their beliefs and levels of
comprehension (Angela Lumpkin, 2020). Teacher is a role model to students for different
aspects. An effective teacher is a good role model for the students for best
perception of life and critical thinking.
The
effective teacher has knowledge to the best pedagogical methods
Modern
teaching is literally different from traditional teaching. if the teacher's
role was limited to information delivery to the student, this teaching method
is deeply broadened. Since modern teaching does not only emphasize information,
it is important to move away from the lecturing style to discussion and more
interacted method. Effective teachers use techniques that best serve the
learning needs of their students. They use them to have each student working on
tasks that engage and challenge them to achieve personal best (Chelo Moreno
Rubio, 2009).
The
effective teacher should have good interaction personality
The
way the teacher and students interact in the classroom affects learning and
growth as well as classroom management. According to developmental perspective, the establishment of a positive
teacher-student relationship aids a student’s cognitive, social and emotional
growth and enhances their mental well-being (https://www.primescholarslibrary.org/articles/importance-of-teacherstudent-interaction-).
A student's self-esteem and skill development are positively
impacted by the teacher-student connections. Interactions between students and
teachers are essential for developing students' academic self-concept and
fostering their enthusiasm and achievement. Teacher-students interaction is very important in
school as it aid student success. The interaction between teacher and student
is essentially the fundamental basis for teaching. A good teacher^student relationship may be even more valuable for students with behavior and learning challenges (Caballero, 2010).
An effective teacher is known to have an
impactful relationship with students. He should cut the gap between the student
and the teacher and make it positive that serve as bridge to cross. The
effective interaction which happens in the classroom can increase students’
language performance. Not only students get the impact of the importance of
good interaction but the teacher can also improve their teaching and learning
process in the classroom (Naimah Susani Hanum, n.d). An effective teacher will
always interact well with students both within and outside the classroom
because this is very important to students’ learning. Interaction between
teacher and student in school is very important and effective teachers should
ensure maximum interaction that will enhance learning
in the classroom (Olanipekum, Shola Sunday, 2015).
The
effective should find student’s difficulties and able to fix it
Individual
diversity in the class needs understanding. The effective teacher should this
understanding. Students in the class have different backgrounds which is
important to understand. Concern for pupils' individual aspirations should be
part of every good teacher's approach. Students come to class from all backgrounds
and bring distinct perspectives that go beyond academics, which a good teacher
should be aware of. Students who differ individually have distinct preferences
that are unique to them. Individual differences can be attributed to a variety
of factors, including physical characteristics (height, weight), intelligence,
interests, and perceptions, as well as gender, ability, learning ability, and
personality traits. In the process of learning-teaching, it is necessary for
the teacher to plan learning by taking these individual differences into
consideration (Ulas Kubat, 2018). The
needs and structure of the learners are very important factors that guide the
behaviors of the learners in the class (Celep, 2004). Therefore, when teaching
activities are planned, students will be able to use methods that meet individual differences, and needs and will enable the students to develop their
skills as well as to ensure that the teaching process is successful (Ulas
Kubat, 2018).
An effective teacher knows his students' strengths and what they are interested in. In the same way, the teacher is aware of the students' situations. The teacher addresses about students in general and specifically, those have difficulties in their learning times.
