Some Historical Sites of Samsun City: Samsun Şehrinin Tarihî Mekânları

Samsun, the beauty of the Black Sea, stands for Türkiye civilization and natural richness. The city is also famous for as it is the beginning place of Turkish War of Independence where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk arrived on May 19, 1919, to start the independence battle of what today known as Republic of Türkiye.

The city has so many historical sites as it is the home of some ancient civilizations including the Pontics, Romans, and Byzantines. During the medieval period, the Seljuks and Ottomans left their mark with beautiful mosques and historic buildings. In this blog, I will share with you some historical sites that I have paid visits

since I came here. It is a great honor and experience for me to be witnessed and see these extraordinary places where so many tourists come to see and experience the long history and preserved for so many years.

The Atatürk Monument locally knows as Onur Aniti is the one and most iconic of Samsun's historical landmarks and symbol of modern Turkish history. This statue was built in 1932 honoring the Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye and commemorates his historic arrival in Samsun May 19, 1919.

Amazon Village located on the Western Cost of the Black Sea famous for Batipark, is a unique cultural and historic village dedicated to the legendary of Amazon Warrior Women. There is Ancient Greek Mythology that there was a tribe of fierce female warriors known as Amazons lived near the Black Sea region where the city is today. This village is a great area for tourism, culture, history, and beauty. There are amazing and creative statues that can capture the eyes while the breeze of the sea can be inhaled.

As Samsun is historic city were ancient civilizations inhabited as far back as their evidence including the settlement of Tekkeköy Caves, Samsun Meuseum, Pazar Camii and So many other.

These beautiful and rich civilizations make Samsun a city like no other. From ancient Pontic tombs and Roman artifacts to Seljuk and Ottoman mosques, every corner of the city tells a story. The legacy of these cultures blends seamlessly with modern life, creating a unique tapestry of history, culture, and heritage. Visitors can walk through ancient ruins, explore museums, and witness monuments that connect the past with the present, making Samsun a living testament to thousands of years of civilization.
